Providing Effective IAG

What is IAG? Information, advice and guidance ‟ it is an umbrella term and covers a range of activities and interventions that help young people to become more self-reliant and better able to manage their personal and career developments

Information the provision of accurate, up-to-date and objective information about personal and lifestyle issues, learning and career opportunities, progression routes, choices, where to find help and advice, and how to access it Important that you are able to effectively convey/explain the information that you are providing If you do not have current information then make it an action to find it out or if the learner requires specific information signpost them to a suitable source

Advice The provision of advice through activities that help people to gather, understand and interpret information and apply it to their own situation Important that you do provide impartial advice and do not influence the learner to an outcome that might not be suitable for them

Guidance “The provision of impartial guidance and specialist support to help people understand themselves and their needs, confront barriers, resolve conflicts, develop new perspectives” Guidance should be provided throughout the programme to ensure the individual is supported to meet their goals/aspirations

IAG at the Recruitment and Enrolment Stage Key points to cover at the recruitment stage: What is an apprenticeship What does the learner want to achieve – personal development Different types of apprenticeship Job descriptions of vacancies What is involved in the programme Interview advice Different pathways available to the learner Funding and Regulator

IAG during the Programme Progress Advice on next steps – don’t leave this just to the final IAG!
