Motivation Nowadays, Facebook is a popular way to connect with friends, share, and interact in daily life. Facebook is part of some people’s everyday activity. It can be used as a language-learning tool.

Purpose To explore if using Facebook reinforces learners’ motivation on learning English. To explore the learners’ overall impressions of the use of Facebook.

Research Question Is there a significant change in motivation type before and after the Facebook exposure? What are the learners’ overall impressions of the use of Facebook?

Literature Review Motivation CMC and Facebook Facebook and English learning

Motivation Motivation is the driving force behind any successful L2 learning and no matter how skilled a language learner is, long-term learning goals cannot be achieved without motivation. (Aubry, 2009)

CMC and Facebook CMC is defined as any type of human interaction facilitated by the use of networked which can be either synchronous (happening in real time) or asynchronous (happening over elapsed time)--Facebook is a kind of asynchronous communication. (Aubry, 2009)

Facebook and English learning Online education is one of the fastest growing forms of learning today. (Aubry, 2009) Facebook can be used as a language- learning tool in and outside of the ESL classroom. (White, 2010)
