GP Event Workshop Feedback London Irish Centre, Camden Sq, NW1 Thursday15 th October 2009

Cardiology GPs were generally in favour of the PBC proposal for ECG reporting service for practices. Some GPs felt that many patients repeatedly go back to lipid and BP clinics (especially at UCH) and they wondered about pulling some of these patient back in to primary care. A GP commented on a hypertension specialist nurse at the hospital. She said she had experience of patients being seen by such a service and wondered if it could not be more efficiently provided in the community. A discussion was held about heart rhythm clinic/palpitations clinic around looking at monitoring patients in the community.

Podiatry Podiatry needs to improve in Camden Trend of podiatrists looking at diabetics feet Footcare is generally based in secondary care however should be more accessible Podiatric surgeons should be utilised more in Camden

Gynaecology Development of a community gynaecology clinic in Camden would deliver increased choice and health benefits to women and their lifestyle

Finance & Budgets Challenge data validation and wrong data should be challenged where possible Importance of timely information in a format that is easy to understand High risk patients – small proportion of population account for large cost. Great benefit of identifying these and planned interventions.

Ophthalmology Challenge to redesign is the lack of data currently available on referral patterns Instead of new service, a streamlining of referral pathways maybe needed Possibility of direct optician referral Reviewing same day GP access for acute cases.

Other Consultant to consultant referrals need to be looked into Stronger organisational structure for PBC is required Attention to detail on specification design (e.g MSK) PBC should have a role in performance monitoring of contracts once tendered Complimentary and alternative therapies – currently under review by the PCT
