Master and Servant

Learning Objectives To describe what makes a good master and servant. To reflect on how we can find joy in serving others. To learn about how Jesus is a servant leader.

Key Vocabulary masterservant servingbeing served lovingfriends familyleading generosityjoy servant leaderJesus

Master and Servant What happens in Old Fred’s loft? What did Anthony and Charlotte discover about Old Fred? Does this help Charlotte to understand what service is about? How? Since watching the play, what do you now think a master/servant is?

Now, think about… When Anthony is the master, how does he treat Charlotte? What effect does this have on Charlotte? How about Charlotte – how does she treat Anthony? How does this affect Anthony and Charlotte’s friends?

THE SERVANT KING The third servant was crowned king of his share, and in his heart, a loving nature remained. “All my life I have been a servant and I have received a great reward for this, so a servant I shall remain to my people.” And so he became the servant king – one who listened to his people’s needs and ruled in their best interests.

THE SERVANT KING In return, he became greatly loved and respected, and when his land did come under threat of war, famine or disaster, as all lands do, the people stood side by side with the king and they overcame all these things strong and united. The servant king lived to a great age and his land endured many years of freedom and peace.

Who is serving who in these pictures?

Dear Jesus, Thank you for serving and leading us. Help us to truly serve others with a joyful heart. Help us to give our talents, time and energy to serve others. Help us to know that true leadership means serving. We ask this in Jesus’ name. Amen.
