Main Idea Journeys Unit 1 Lesson 1

Let’s Review

Characters Characters are people or animals in a story

Setting The setting is where the story happens

Topic: what the selection tells about Academic Language Topic: what the selection tells about Detail: Fact that tells more about a main idea

Summarizing Means telling the story in a short way, making sure to tell the important parts.

The main idea is the most important idea about a topic.

Think about the story “The Three Little Pigs” What is the story mostly about? What is the main idea? The story is about three little pigs and the wolf trying to ruin their houses.

Click on the story that has the following main idea. A little girl is going to bring her Grandma a basket of goodies.
