Color and Chocolate- Does Color Matter? MMMMMM!

Statement of the Problem  Does Color Affect the Melting Rate of the Chocolate Candy?

Project Overview We will be looking at the different colors of chocolate candies. Our goal is to see if the color causes the melting rate to speed up or slow down. This has practical applications Companies can stop making the ones that melt fast so your hand does not get chocolate on it!

Research Summarize your research here in three to five bullet points: Dark color cars get hotter in the summer Roads that are black seem to be very hot in the heat Summer clothes are often made of light colors Chocolate will melt without coating so we will see what happens with the coating

Variables  Controlled variables: These are the things that are kept the same throughout your experiments.  Independent variable: The one variable that you purposely change and test.  Dependent variable: The measure of change observed because of the independent variable. It is important to decide how you are going to measure the change.  What would our variables be??

Hypothesis IF I USE DIFFERENT COLORS THEN THE DARK COLOR WILL MELT FASTEST. I BELIEVE THIS BECAUSE I FEEL DARK CARS GETTING HOTTER IN THE SUMMER THAN LIGHT CARS.

Materials  Type a detailed list of the items you needed to complete your experiments.  Be specific about the amounts used.  What materials do we need?

Procedure  List all of the steps used in completing your experiment.  Remember to number your steps.  Add photos of your experiments. 1. Place 6 different colored chocolate candies under the lamp. They must be exactly under the same part of the light. 2. Turn on the lamp. 3. Record observations every 15 seconds until all candies are melted. 4. Repeat the experiment at three times. 5. Compare data.

Data/Observations  It is easier to understand the data if it is put into a table or graph. Create a graph in Microsoft Excel and import it here.  Make sure all data is clearly labeled.  Don’t forget a title on your table.  Graph it after you are done and display it in your conclusion.  Color and Melting Rate Data Colors sec Blue green Red Black

Conclusion Type a brief summary here of what you discovered based on the results of your experiments. You need to indicate whether or not the data supports the hypothesis and explain why or why not. You can also explain what changes you can make for the next experiment.
