GOOGLE

History of Google  Larry Page and Sergey Brin both met in school at Stanford and togetherfounded what is known in the present day, as Google.  At inception it only had a customer base of 10,000 people and rapidly grew and earned its reputation as the ideal source of information.  It is now the search engine that is frequently used by all.

Company Culture  The organization prides itself in its free and open door environment for all.  Employees are not confined to the typical rules found in major offices.  Creativity requires that employees be free with each other.  Protecting the environment in everything that they do, takes precedence. Strive on creating an eco friendly environment for all.

Sustainable Development Plans  Data centers are seen to be among the most efficient in the world. Google data centers utilize only 50% of what most data centers use.  The organization has invested over $ 100 million with Sun Power Corporation in form of a fund. It is meant to be used in the installation of solar panel in residential houses (Stirman, et al., 2012).  Google has also invested over $75 million in Carson County. The investment is going to be used to harness wind energy from the wind farms.

Cont’  Recurrent energy plans by Google has seen it invest over $80 millions in efficient solar facilities in both Arizona and California.  The project will generate 106MW and will be used to power a lot of homes, over 17,000 homes in the United States. Solar projects are not limited to the United States alone;  The organization has also funded a solar power project in the Northern Cape province of South Africa.  It has also funded a clean energy project in Germany. The project is Brandenburg Germany and is seen as one of the biggest plants in Germany harnessing energy through solar.

The Prism of The Triple Bottom Line  The triple bottom line seeks to have sustainable measures incorporated in businesses.  it is divided into three segments, that is, social, environmental and financial (Scheirer, 2005).  Google through its sustainable programs adheres to the Prism of the Triple Bottom Line  Google seeks to award and recognize each and every employee for work done.  It provides the same employees with a suitable environment, one if its kind, whereby employees can interact and freely share ideas.

Cont’  Google gives back to the community in a very big way. Through its foundation and other avenues that it sponsors.  Scholarships for students who cannot afford university education.  Funding foundations pertaining to cancer research.  Sustainable food programs that will ensure all have easy access to basic needs such as food.

Cont’ The planet and ensuring that eco friendly environments are enhanced, is an objective Google seeks to accomplish in the following ways;  Having a Green and ecofriendly office for employees and visitors.  Discouraging small but important things like printing unnecessarily in the office.  Sponsoring or financing renewable energy projects in the United States, Germany and South Africa.

Google As A Company  I choose this company mainly because of its versatility.  It is an organization that has grown rapidly over the years run by young people.  Google makes a large amount of profit but still tries to create a balance and ensures that sustainable programs are incorporated in its overall strategy.  It is the future.
