LEONARDO DA VINCI DAEDALUS

King Minos of Crete Palace of Knossos Daedalus hires by King Minos of Crete to build his palace. Palace of Knossos

Pasiphae: Queen of Crete Wife of Minos Pasiphae: Queen of Crete Wife of Minos. She bores a half human/half bull. Minos orders Daedalus to build a labyrinth to hide the beast.

Theseus and Ariadne Theseus, King of Athens, volunteered to enter the labyrinth. Ariadne, daughter of Minos, fell in love with him and agreed to help him defeat the Minotaur. She begged Daedalus to reveal the mystery of the maze.

Minos discovers Daedalus betrayed him Minos discovers Daedalus betrayed him. The King imprisons him and his son, Icarus, to a tower in the middle of the sea. Daedalus plans to escape by building wings made of bird feathers and wax for Icarus and himself.

Daedalus warns his son to not fly too high or the sun would melt his wings.

Icarus becomes entrapped by ability to fly and disobeys his father. The wax on his wings melt and he falls into the ocean.

Icarus drowns and dies.
