Israel’s History

Abram was married to Sarai and they had no children.

When Abram was 75 years old, God told him to move his family to the promise land.

God promised Abram 1. He and his children could have all the land

2. His family will become a great nation. 3. He will have more children and grandchildren than the stars in the sky.

Sarai tells Abram to have a baby with Hagar (her maid). His name is Ishmael.

Sarai got mad and kicked Hagar and Ishmael out of the house.

Later God promises Saria that she will have a baby too. She names the baby Isaac.

So which child is Abraham’s heir (person who inherits his stuff)? So which child is Abraham’s heir (person who inherits his stuff)?

This question is still a problem today.

Ishmael is the heir because he is the firstborn child!

Isaac is the heir because he is the son of Sarah (Abraham’s wife)!

Fast forward a few 100 years to a man named Moses.

One day God told Moses to take Isaac’s descendants out of Egypt to the Promise Land.

This was the same land God had promised to Abram.

A few years later the Holy Roman Empire took over the land and ran out all of the Jewish people.

After that the Ottoman Empire (who were Muslims) took over the land.

Fast forward a few 100 years to World War I.

Great Britain promises to give the Jews their land back.

After the war they decided not to give the Jews the land.

After World War II the United Nations created the country of Israel because they felt bad about the Holocaust.

We don’t want any more people here, especially if they are Jewish.

We are not leaving! In fact we are taking the Gaza Strip and the West Bank.
