Herbicide Trials 2002 Only one herbicide trail was conducted. Conditions were dry with heavy weed pressure which can be seen by the dramatic effect of the weedy plots on yield. All treatments performed statistically similar.

Insecticide Trials Orthene had significantly more flea beetles than most Platinum and Admire treatments and more flea beetle damage than all but the check in early ratings. In later ratings no flea beetle differences were detecting among the treatments. Aphid colonies were higher where Orthene alone was used as a transplant water treatment than most of the Platinum and Admire treatments but was not different from the check. The Admire drench yielded significantly lower than some of the other treatments.

Influence of Insecticide Treatments on Insect Pressure Boyle Co - Wesley Pruitt Farm (1 st rating) P=Platinum, A=Admire, O=Orthene #=fl oz/a except Orthene in lb/a, Trans = Transplant water, Drenched plants were treated 1 week prior to Transplanting

Growth Regulators Messenger and Orthene were tested for possible influence on tobacco growth. In Fayette County there were no significant differences between treatments and the check for vigor in July. The Orthene+Messenger plots were significantly more uniform than the check. There was no significant difference in bloom stage or vigor in August. In Pulaski County black shank caused significant impact on the test. The check was more vigorous and uniform than the treated plots and black shank was greater in the Messenger plots. Black shank incidence did not appear to be related to Messenger use.
