Unit 11 the sounds of the world the second period  Teaching aims: 1.Train the students ’ reading ability. 2.Improve the students ’ communicating ability. 3.Let the students know about the different styles of music in the world. Teaching procedure: 1.Learn and master the following words and phrases: On the radio, have … in common, a variety of, etc. 2.Improve the students ’ reading ability and help them understand the passage exactly.

Teaching difficulty points: How to help the students further understand the passage and finish the relevant tasks correctly. Teaching methods: 1.Fast reading and careful reading to train the students’ reading ability and understand the passage better. 2.Discussion to improve the students’ ability to communicate with each other. Teaching aids: A tape recorder

Two questions about music: 1.Do you like music? 2. Do you know how many musical styles in the world? Rock, folk, pop, classical, blues, jazz, hip-hop and rap.

1.where does blues music come from? It comes from African songs. 2. what does the word ”rap” mean? We can find the answer in the third paragraph. In rap music, the singer or “rapper” will speak or “rap” the words along with the beat. 3. why is Latin music so popular in the Us? Is it popular in China? Because in the Us, where there are many Spanish- speaking people, and Latin music is popular in Spanish-speaking countries. But it is not popular in China.

Words and phrases: 1.On the radio= over the radio = by radio Eg: I listened to the weather forecast on/ over the radio every morning. 2.A world of : a lot of Eg: there’re a world of people in this town. 3. Have (much, little, none…) in common with : 与某物 有...共同之处 Eg:1). 我们的生活方式与上一辈的完全不同. Our life style has none in common with the last generation’s. 2). 这两本书在内容上有点相似. These two books have a little in common in their contents. 4.A variety of : a lot of adj. the variety of : “… 的多样性 ” n. Eg: the variety of ideas is decided by people’s different life experiences.
