O Rules: O Break into teams (at least 2) O The game will begin with the team who has a member with a birthday on November 8 th (or the closest date after November 8 th). O Play will go from team to team (Clockwise). O Playing team must answer “Plagiarism or Not” for 1 Point and may either Give Reason(s) for 3 Points or Pass the Play. O If play is passed, the next team MUST give a reason for the answer and either Gain or Loose 3 Points from their score.

Plagiarism or Not? O Practice: "Money is the root of all evil"

Plagiarism or Not? Answer: NOT It is a Cliché

Plagiarism or Not? O Let the games BEGIN…

Plagiarism or Not? God heals, and the doctor takes the fees. - Benjamin Franklin

Plagiarism or Not? NOT Benjamin Franklin was given credit for his words.

Plagiarism or Not? O You are assigned to write a page-long poem by your wicked English teacher. It is almost 2 a.m. and you have no idea what to write, until you hear the perfect words coming out of your ear buds. Your teacher is completely lame and would never know that the words to your poem were really the words of Lil’ Wayne. Just to be safe, you add your own title, mix-up the verses, and change the names in the song to the names of your friends.

Plagiarism or Not? Was it even a question? YES!!! Plagiarism Regardless of re-arrangement and name changes, the words and ideas were not your own.

Plagiarism or Not? BONUS PLAY! Play or Pass for 6 Points Choose your best player to go to the board.

Plagiarism or Not? With the help of your team, you have 30 seconds to cite this source…starting…NOW! Publication Name: PMLA Volume 121 Issue Page Piper, Andrew. “Rethinking the Print Object: Goethe and the Book of Everything.” PMLA (2006): Print.

Plagiarism or Not? This book has been written against a background of both darkness and despair. It holds that Fairies and Goblins are two sides of the same coin; that both are articles of superstition, not of fact. Interestingly enough, Smith avoids much of the debates found in some of the less philosophical literature.

Plagiarism or Not? Plagiarism When material is taken directly from a book, article, speech, statement, remarks, the Internet, or some other source, the writer must provide proper attribution. In this example, no credit is given to the author.

Plagiarism or Not? "Time is money"

Plagiarism or Not? NOT It is a Cliché

Plagiarism or Not? You are writing a paper on the dangers of drug use and support your stance by using a story (cut and paste) from the autobiography of Jim Morrison. You use the story in one of your paragraphs and cite at the end of the story (Allen 111).

Plagiarism or Not? Plagiarism When material is quoted word-for-word, a footnote alone is insufficient. The material that represents a direct quotation must either be put within quotation marks or indented.

Plagiarism or Not? You can fool some of the people all of the time, and all of the people some of the time, but you cannot fool all of the people all the time.

Plagiarism or Not? Plagiarism Lincoln was not given credit for his famous quote.

Plagiarism or Not? BONUS PLAY! Play or Pass for 6 Points Choose your best player to go to the board.

Plagiarism or Not? With the help of your team, you have 30 seconds to cite this source…starting…NOW!

Plagiarism or Not? Consider the following sentence from Angelici (Synthesis and Technique in Inorganic Chemistry, p 46): "Those complexes that contain unpaired electrons are attracted into a magnetic field and are said to be paramagnetic, while those with no unpaired electrons are repelled by such a field and are called diamagnetic“ You write: "Complexes that contain unpaired electrons are those that are attracted to a magnetic field. These are called paramagnetic, while those with no unpaired electrons are repelled by a magnetic field and are said to be diamagnetic."

Plagiarism or Not? Plagiarism The wording was unacceptable (according to The University of Kentucky).

Plagiarism or Not? "All’s fair in love and war"

Plagiarism or Not? Not It is a cliché.

Plagiarism or Not? Your grandfather tells you a story about his time in the service and you decide to write a movie. The movie is NOT about your grandfather and you have created original characters and details. You say that the story was inspired by your grandfather but you do not give him credit for the rest of the production.

Plagiarism or Not? Not Grandpa was given credit for inspiration and was not part of the creative writing process.

Plagiarism or Not? The language of friendship is not words, but meanings. - Henry David Thoreau

Plagiarism or Not? Not Henry David Thoreau was given credit.

Plagiarism or Not? BONUS PLAY! For 6 points… Play or Pass?

Plagiarism or Not? For 6 Points Give three examples of how someone can be given credit for their work

Plagiarism or Not? Tracy and Stacy are working on a project together; Stacy can’t finish the project because she has to move. When Tracy presents the project, she takes full credit because Stacy is no longer able to receive a grade.

Plagiarism or Not? Plagiarism Stacy worked on the project and must be given credit for her contributions.

Plagiarism or Not? Last Chance Bonus Play For Mystery Points PLAY OR PASS???

Plagiarism or Not? Your girlfriend/boyfriend writes a song for you while you are dating. A few years later, you meet someone that you want to impress and you show them your song. You never actually say that you wrote the song ; the song belongs to you.

Plagiarism or Not? Although your Ex may not deserve any credit… Plagiarism Do I really need to explain at this point? You get 10 points!!!

Plagiarism or Not? The team with the highest score is the winner!!!
