Christmas Witnesses to the Birth Luke 2:1-20; Matthew 2:1-12

Memory Verse “And so was fulfilled what the Lord had said through the prophet: ‘Out of Egypt I called my son.’” Matthew 2:15

Learning Goals Explore: Students will understand that how God ordained the witnesses to the birth of Jesus to demonstrate the Gospel. Transform: Students will celebrate Jesus’ birth as the arrival of the Savior and King of all nations.

Discussion If you were celebrating Christmas from the perspective of the shepherds, how would your attitude toward Christmas be affected? How does knowing that God was faithful to His promise to send His Son, the Messiah, impact the way that you view God? How can we make the gospel central in our Christmas celebrations? In what ways can we celebrate so that others would know the truth of Christ?

Key Study 1. Jesus’ birth demonstrates His arrival as God in the flesh (Luke 2:1–7)

Key Study 2. Jesus’ birth demonstrates His role as Savior of the world (Luke 2:8–20).

Key Study 3. Jesus’ birth demonstrates His position as King of all nations (Matt. 2:1–12).
