Background GTP is specified and deployed for 3GPP release 99 3GPP is looking for ways to incorporate Mobile IP into their protocol framework Mobile IP ad hoc study group has recommended inclusion for new 3GPP release We should try to encourage this development

Main Motivation GTP should be allowable as a Mobile IP tunneling mechanism GTP should become a Proposed Standard –satisfies criteria of interoperability –any changes from working group would be submitted to 3GPP
