Eco-Municipality  Eco-Municipality can be defined as 0 “A systems approach to creating sustainable communities”  Four Sustainable objectives to being an Eco-Municipality are: 1) Reduce use of fossil fuels and minerals 2) Reduce use of unnatural substances 3) Reduce interfering with nature 4) Meet the needs of people with a balance of fairness and efficiency

Eco-Municipality Township of Lawrence, New Jersey  Township of Lawrence, New Jersey (Mercer County)  Population is 33,472 (2010)  A Sustainable Jersey Certified Community  In order to be considered Sustainable Jersey Certified certain sustainable action has to be taken: 1) Municipal buildings have to have energy audits 2) Carbon footprint has to be completed on the municipal 3) Sustainable Land Use Pledge 4) Natural resource inventory  Reasons to become Sustainable Jersey Certified: 1) Save Money by implementing sustainable elements, and receive money through grants and incentives 2) Gain access to guidance and training to develop a sustainable program 3) Promote your town by being on their website, and opportunities for awards 4) Protect the environment by conserving resources

Green Commercial Development Project- Plano Environmental Education Center  “sustainable, green venue for small to mid-sized events such as meetings, workshops, classes, team building, weddings, showers, parties, picnic, and family events”  This building was built in 2010  One of Plano’s 1 st Green buildings to be built  Certified LEED Platinum 0 Site orientation and layout for maximum energy efficiency 0 Recycled/renewable/nontoxic materials 0 Energy Efficient and renewable technologies used: solar panels, natural lighting, and wind turbine 0 Water Conservation with Rainwater harvesting, lo-flow water system, efficient irrigation 0 Living Roof

Green Commercial Development Project- Plano Environmental Education Center  The EEC is a benefit social to the community by: 0 Providing educational programs for everyone even for apartments and can be presented on-site 0 Afterschool Programs that cover some of the following areas: 1) Litter Awareness 2) Recycling 3) Household Hazardous Waste 4) Water 5) Energy 6) Air Quality  The EEC provides benefit on a environmental level: 0 Using less energy, reducing their carbon footprint 0 The Solar and Wind power generate 30% of the facility electrical needs  The EEC benefits on a economic level: 0 Help residents to save money by implementing sustainable components to their lives 0 Center can be rented for events for people 0 Some of the amenities that facilities normally charged for hosting events are free with the facility: 0 Audio and PA System 0 Projector

Sustainability Environmental SocialEconomics Each one of these examples demonstrated all three of the these pillars and comes to show no matter what you call it Sustainability exist in everything we do
