Spheres of the Earth The earth is made up of four main spheres which allow us to live and function. These layers must exist in harmony and work together.
The Earth System There are 4 of these important systems. The Earth System is a set of systems that work together in making the world we know.

Earth System Analysis How to do an Earth System Analysis

Identify connections between the spheres Try to think of as many connections as you can.

There are many possible connections! Biosphere Hydrosphere Lithosphere Atmosphere Hydrosphere Anthrosphere Biosphere Cryosphere Cryosphere Atmosphere ……..and more!

Examples of Connections … Biosphere Lithosphere Green plants grow in the soil and absorb moisture through their roots. The tree and grass roots hold the soil and help prevent erosion. Biosphere Hydrosphere Fish and many plants live in the lake, and get oxygen from the water. Cryosphere Atmosphere The ice and snow on the mountain make the air cool. The cool air falls down and makes the valley cool.

More Examples… Cryosphere Anthroposphere The snow melts slowly during the summer and provides water to the people in the valley. Anthrosphere Hydrosphere People dig out the harbor and make the water deeper so they can bring their boats to the dock. The boats dump bilge water into the lake and pollute the lake.

Energy flows, matter cycles, life webs Biosphere Lithosphere Atmosphere Hydrosphere Cryosphere Anthrosphere In the Earth System…..
