J’adore and Erikah Today we are going to talk to you about trees. The trees we are going to talk to you about are Totara and Kowhai!

More about Kowhai The Kowhai tree ends it’s life when it is 200 years old. There are eight kinds of Kowhai trees. The flowers of the Kowhai tree are thought of as a national flower. Kowhai was used as medicine for the Maori. Wood pigeons feed on the leaves and sometimes petals. Kowhai tree means yellow tree. Kowhai flowers only come out in spring.

Totara, Wow!! Totara Wow!! Totara was one of the most useful timber in the New Zealand forest. Totara wood is light in weight. The sap wood is a pale brown colour and the heart wood is a reddish brown colour. The timber is not very strong and the dry heartwood is brittle. Totara is a medium to large tree which grows slowly around to 20 to 30 metres.

Kowhai clips and information NpAl1NqNY GoG39xk Kowhai are small woody trees. Most Kowhai trees can grow up to 12 metres high. WOW that is HUGE!!! Tuis are very attracted to the Kowhai tree and they like flying long distances to get some nectar.
