有朋自遠方來不亦悅乎 There are friends come from far distance, it is one of great pleasure. 拋磚引玉 Throw a stone to draw a jade. 集眾智、獻良策、定良方 Collective wisdom, collecting the suggestions, finding the best solution.

Prospect of XBPM and beam stability workshop To exchange ideas, and share experience on the issue of XBPM and control of beam stability. The workshop will cover the topics of XBPM structure, performance, beam physics and the feedback system Builds upon the common user requirements, performance and operation principles to define the essential characteristics of an working environment of the XBPM that delivers the best beam stability.

Overview of TPS Project

Major Parameters Beam energy : 3 GeV Beam current: 400 mA (300 mA in Phase-1) Emittance: 1.6 nm-rad. Lifetime: > 10 hours Straight Sections: 7 m (18); 12 m (6) Number of IDs : > 6 (budget from NSRRC Op.) Lattice structure: DBA Circumference: m Critical photon energy: 7.13 keV

Basic Features of TPS Low emittance lattice – increasing the brightness Robust and flexible operation lattice – suitable for various operation condition Top-Up operation – Constant thermal loading Sharing tunnel booster – Low emittance, easy for injection, and reduce the complexity of civil construction Single bunch injection – few bunches, hybrid filling pattern SRF cavities – Reduction of HOMs, increasing photon flux and less cavities.

Feedback from workshop What is the reliability of XBPM using in orbit feedback loop? Will that generate cross-talk with the with the feedback by e-BPM in the storage ring? How difficulty to separate the signal pollution of XBPM from bending radiation to ID radiation? Is that essential to have a Decker’s distortion to get clean signal for the photon BPM or XBPM? Is there a scheme to normalize the beam shape, orbit or angle, or photon energy changes due to the change of IDs’ gap at ID beamlines? Does TPS need canted beam line at straight section? What is the beneficial to have such layout?

Thank you for your efforts

Operation Statistics Comparing with Other Facilities TLS Operation Goal Highly Reliable: MTBF > 80 hr; Highly Available: Up-time better than 98%; Difficulty to be better with manpower and budget focusing on TPS Ch. Wang et. al
