What do you know about Forensic Science or Crime Scene Investigations?

Forensic Science Topics Crime scenes Fingerprints Hairs & fibers Blood Analysis Handwriting, Forgery, & Chromatography Writing an Investigation Report

Crime Scenes As investigators, what would you find at a crime scene?

What evidence would you collect?

How are fingerprints important to a crime scene and how are they collected?

Can you identify the difference in each fingerprint pattern. Right Hand Left Hand Right Hand

How are hairs important to a crime scene? How are fibers important to a crime scene?

Hairs & Fibers When observing hairs and fibers under a microscope it is important to do the following: –Create a detailed drawing of the specimen as seen under the microscope. –Incorporate color into your drawing. –Label your drawing (parts of the hair for example and name of animal it came from)

Why is blood collected at a crime scene? How is the blood from a crime scene tested?

Blood Analysis Methods for Detecting Bloodstains: Visual, White Light Kastle-Meyer Test Luminol Reagent Test Human Precipitin Test Analyzing procedures & results for blood type: You will use an antiserum to test for different blood types. An antiserum is a serum containing antibodies. Obtained from an animal that has been exposed to antigen. Used in the prevention, treatment or diagnosis of infectious disease.

How do forensic scientist determine who wrote a note at a crime scene or if it was forgery? How and why is chromatography used to solve a crime?

Chromatography can be used to separate the components of inks and dyes, such as those found in pens & markers. How can this be an important process for forensic scientists? Pencil Filter Paper Ink Mark Tape – Label with marker

After each piece of evidence you collect, you must write a debriefing, or written summary, of the test results, observations you made, or eyewitness testimonies. BE SPECIFIC!!! LOTS OF DETAILS!!! At the end of the investigation, you will write a final report that summarizes the ENTIRE investigation.
