Science Safety Notes

Science Safety Rules 1.Goggles If a lab calls for the use of goggles, keep them on at all times (no matter how dorky you look) until the lab is done.

Science Safety Rules 2.Chemical Use If a lab uses any type of solid/liquid/gas chemical, make sure to follow directions and dispose of the material in the correct way.

Science Safety Rules 3.Use of Lab Equipment No matter what equipment we are using, please treat your materials (and other groups’ materials) with respect and handle with care.

Science Safety Rules 4.Eye Safety Keep your eyes protected at all times be either using goggles or handling the materials safely. If you do get anything toxic in your eyes, tell the teacher immediately and we can use the emergency eye wash!

Science Safety Rules 5.Skin Safety If you get chemicals on your skin, tell the teacher and we can use a sink or (if it’s really bad) the safety shower to rinse off the chemicals!

Science Safety Rules 6.Smelling Fumes When smelling an unknown substance in a science lab, always waft the fumes towards you… do not take a big WHIFF as it can be dangerous!

Science Safety Rules 7.Broken Glass If glass breaks, tell the teacher. Do not clean up the glass yourself!

Science Safety Rules 8.Fire Safety If a fire occurs, notify the teacher and we can use the fire extinguisher and/or evacuate the room if necessary!

Science Safety Rules 9.NO Eating in the Lab DO NOT EAT IN THIS CLASSROOM (unless the teacher tells you it is alright)!

Science Safety Rules 10. Hand washing Wash your hands with soap and water or antibacterial hand sanitizer at the end of any lab or activity (if your teacher says you need to)
