Characteristics of Living Things

- Cellular Organization Living things are all composed of cells. Living things are all composed of cells. Cells are the tiny puzzle pieces that make up all living things. Cells come together so organisms can perform specific functions. Cells are the tiny puzzle pieces that make up all living things. Cells come together so organisms can perform specific functions.

- Obtains and Uses Energy Living things obtain energy and use it to perform life functions. Living things obtain energy and use it to perform life functions.

- Grows and Develops Living things grow (get bigger in size) and develop (change forms) Living things grow (get bigger in size) and develop (change forms)

- Reproduce All living things reproduce to survive by creating offspring. All living things reproduce to survive by creating offspring.

- Responds to Stimulus Living things respond to stimuli. Living things respond to stimuli. Stimulus= detectable change in the environment Stimulus= detectable change in the environment Response= reaction to the stimulus Response= reaction to the stimulus

- Adapted to its Environment The process of living things adjustiing to their environment in order to survive and pass on their traits to their offspring. The process of living things adjustiing to their environment in order to survive and pass on their traits to their offspring.
