Presentation transcript:

 Fold one sheet of paper in half length wise so that you have two long columns. Keep folded.  Now fold the long column into thirds (three equal sections.  Unfold the paper. You should have six fairly equal sized boxes.

 In each of the six boxes you will be describing each of the six major primary pollutants. In each box you will give: 1.Definition 2.Source of the pollutant (human and/or natural sources) 3.Effects (on people and ecosystems)  In the top left corner of each box, place the name of the primary pollutant.

1. Particulates 2. Sulfur Dioxide 3. Nitrogen Oxides 4. Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs) 5. Carbon Monoxide 6. Ground-level Ozone (also called tropospheric ozone)

1. Box 1: Analyze Figure 13-7 on page Box 2: Analyze Figure 13-9 on page Box 3: Smog: explain photochemical smog, its effects and formation 4. Box 4: Radon: describe its source and results due to radon exposure 5. Box 5 & 6: Meteorological factors that affect pollution; describe how wind, precip., high pressure, temp inversions can make air quality better and/or worse
