3x3 Cube Solution: *There are MANY ways to solve this cube!

You MAY figure this out by using the directions in this packet. However, it is MUCH easier if you come to our meetings to practice this and learn from others…

This video will help you with the top 2 layers : Remember: Make the “cross” on top first. Then complete the corners on top. After you have solved the top layer, solve the middle layer. Mix it up and practice until you are an expert with those two layers!

This may help with the final layer: com/watch/ My method for the final layer is on the following pages:

Step 1: Flip the cube upside down so the unsolved face is up toward the ceiling.

Solve the 4 middles first (get them in the right place). “Toward you…middle up…away from you…middle down…one/two…flip it… fix the top corner cube… x y To switch x and y: hold the cube so “Z” is facing your body. Move the top layer toward you once to the left (the “y” will now be where the “x” started) to the left. Then move the middle layer up once. Then move the top layer once to the right. Move the middle layer down once. Move the top layer 2 times. Flip the cube over and fix the one cube from the first layer that will be messed up! You will probably have to do this move again. Keep doing it until all middle are in the right spot. Z

Once you have the middles in the proper places, you may have to flip them to get the colors in the right spots: You will have to flip either 1 pair, 2 pairs, or none of them! Put the middle to be flipped on your right! Put the “Z” facing your body: “Up (move the right side up once) change the middle ( change the middle means move that middle section once to the right)…Do that 4 times! (up…change the middle 4 times). *Then keep the Z face toward your body and rotate the other middles on the top face that need to be flipped down to the right (where x position is). Repeat the “up change the middle” four more times. When you are done, all middles should be perfect. x Assume this cube needs to be flipped… Z

Corners! You have to switch 2 corners and then switch 2 more! -Put the 2 to be switched on your right (like x and y above). -up once with right slice, to the right once with the bottom slice…up 2 with the right slice…2 to the right with the bottom slice…up 2 with the right slice…once to the LEFT with the bottom slice…down one with the right slice… *Then…rotate the top of the cube only to switch the other 2 corners…repeat what is in bold above… That should line up your corners! You might have to do it all one more time to get them perfect! x y The cube should now be perfect, except for the corners.

Last step! Your goal: Flip the corners down so you see middle top cube color on all top cubes.-position the cube so the one you want to flip is in the x position…Z should be facing your body Hold the cube so 1,2,3,4 don’t move (I hold my thumb on them). Then right slice up one..front face (the entire Z face) left once…right slice down once…front face to the right once…repeat the red directions above until you see the middle top color appear the corner piece you are flipping (in the x position). *Then rotate the top over (keep Z facing your body) so the next cube to be flipped is in the bottom right of the top face. Repeat the directions above until solved! That’s it! Congratulations. Now go for speed! x z
