Presentation transcript:

Longhouses were used by the Eastern Woodland Indians. Longhouses were really long; they could be over 200 feet long, 25 feet wide, and 25 feet high.

The Pueblo were cliff dwellers. They built homes of adobe brick on cliffs and on mesas. Homes were stacked one on top of the other like an apartment complex. Sometimes they were stacked four high. Adobe Brick

In the desert southwest, many Native Americans lived in pueblo communities. This painting by artist George Nelson shows how everyday life might have been at a pueblo near El Paso, Texas.

A tepee is a Plains Native American home. It is made of buffalo hide fastened around long wooden poles, designed in a cone shape.

This picture shows a Lipan Apache camp in the Texas Hill Country, as imagined by artist George Nelson. The woman is preparing a buffalo skin to be used as a tepee covering.

A wigwam was a round building with a round top. It was made from tree logs, covered again with bark. Some were quite large - about 6 feet long.

This village scene shows the bee-hive shape of the sturdy grass houses made by Caddo Indians of East Texas. This painting is by George Nelson.

A small village in Central Texas as imagined by artist Charles Shaw. Archeologists have found the remains of circular structures roughly 800 years old.
