Contents Introduction Henry VIII Catherine of Aragon Anne Boleyn Jane Seymour Anne of Cleves Kathryn Howard Katharine Parr Henry VIII His Wife

Introduction We decided to do ‘The Wives of Henry VIII’ because we were all very interested in how they spent their lives before, during and after they married Henry VIII. We found a variety of information like entertainment, food and outfits of which they wore. We also found a bit about how they spent their spare time. We did also find a bit about Henry VIII as well. We hope you enjoy our power point!

Henry VIII Henry VIII is one of the most famous kings of all time. He had so many wives because he always wanted someone to rule after him. He also wanted a son so badly because he thought boys were more powerful than girls (which is obviously not true!). Henry loved music. He even wrote his own song for Anne Boleyn, Greensleves. He had: 78 recorders 78 flutes 10 trombones 14 trumpets 5 bagpipes

Catherine of Aragon Catherine of Aragon was the youngest surviving child of Isabella and Ferdinand of Spain. As it was common for princesses of the day, her parents almost immediately began looking for a political match for her. When she was three years old, she was betrothed to Arthur, the son of Henry VII of England. Arthur was not even two at the time. When she arrived in England she was married to Arthur but sadly he died soon after. She was then married to Henry VIII of England who became king in 1509.She lead Henry’s armies a lot when he was away. Catherine gave birth to a girl called Mary. They were married for twenty years, until Catherine was divorced in 1533 because of Henry’s love for Anne Boleyn…

Anne Boleyn Anne Boleyn was Henry’s second wife. She was not as good a wife as Catherine of Aragon. She was born in1500. She was married to Henry in She gave birth to a girl called Elizabeth. After a few years Henry got bored of Anne because he really badly needed a male heir. In 1536 Henry got so bored of her that he blamed her of treason and adultery and was beheaded on 19 th May Henry actually played tennis when she was being beheaded. He had already fallen in love with Jane Seymour…

Jane Seymour Jane Seymour was Henry’s third and favourite wife. The reason Henry loved her so much was she gave him what he had longed for all his reign, a male heir. She was born in 1509 and she married Henry on the 30 th May That’s only eleven days after Anne Boleyn was beheaded! Her child was called Edward and although he was a sickly child he managed to survive the birth but sadly Jane died only twelve days later on the 24 th October That means she died only a year after she was married to Henry! We thought that Henry only loved Jane Seymour because she gave him a male heir and his other wives did not. He remained single for two years after that.

Anne of Cleves Anne of Cleves was Henry’s fourth wife and she was definitely not his favourite. It all started when Thomas Cromwell sent Hans Holbein to paint two ladies portraits. Henry desperately needed a new wife. The two ladies were called Kristina of Denmark and Anne of Cleves. First Holbein went to Denmark to paint Kristina’s portrait. Kristina dressed in horrible, dark clothes because she didn’t want to marry Henry. Anne of Cleves dressed in beautiful clothes. Henry said yes to Anne of Cleves. When Anne arrived in court Henry thought she looked like a horse but he married her anyway. He then divorced her six moths later because he was in love with Kathryn Howard…

Kathryn Howard Kathryn Howard was Henry’s fifth wife. She was the youngest remaining daughter of Lord Edmund Howard. She was also the cousin of Anne Boleyn and a lady in waiting to Anne of Cleves. She married Henry in 1540 when she was only nineteen years old. Henry was forty nine. She was blamed for treason and adultery (like her cousin, Anne Boleyn) and was beheaded in 1542, only two years after she was married to Henry!

Katherine Parr Katherine Parr was Henry’s sixth and final wife. She was married to Henry in She was nearly executed of treason in 1546 when her enemies attempted to prove that she was a committed protestant but she managed to convince Henry that she was loyal to him and that she would comfort him. She nursed Henry until he died in 1548 and then she married Thomas Seymour because he was the one she wanted to marry in the first place. She was named Katherine because her mother was a lady in waiting to Catherine of Aragon. It was like this because her mother liked Catherine of Aragon so much.
