God’s Promise To Abraham

One day in a place called Ur of the Chaldees, God spoke to a man named Abraham. ‘Leave this land!’ God commanded. ‘Go to the land I will show you.’ Abraham obeyed and God led him to Canaan. His wife Sarah and his nephew Lot went with him.

A few years later God spoke to Abraham again. ‘Abraham, look up at the heavens and count the stars if you can. That is how many children you will have in years to come.’

One day, three visitors came to visit Abraham and Sarah at their tent. One said, ‘Your wife Sarah will have a son.’ Sarah laughed to herself because she was 90 years old and Abraham was 100, far too old for a son.

However the Lord visited Sarah as he had said and gave her a child. Abraham named his son Isaac, just as God had wished.
