The Flood (chapters 6-9) By: Caca page 42

Writer’s comment ‘The Lord saw how great man’s wickedness on the earth had become, and that every inclination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil all the time. The Lord was grieved that he had made man on the earth, and his heart was filled with pain’ (verses 5-6) ‘The Lord said, “I will wipe mankind, whom I have created, from the face of the earth – men and animals, and creatures that move along the ground, and the birds of the air – for I am grieved that I have made them”’ (verse 7)

About the comments These comments are what the writer thinks about the flood. That the Lord saw that the thoughts of man were of evil. That’s why the Lord said that He will wipe all mankind because He is grieved that He had made us.

The Flood A few generations have come and gone, but sin is very much alive. The writer makes a devastating comment: “The Lord saw how great man’s wickedness on the earth had become, and that every inclination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil all the time. The Lord was grieved that he had made man on the earth, and his heart was filled with pain’ (verses 5-6).

He therefore resolves to act in judgment: ‘The Lord said, “I will wipe mankind, whom I have created, from the face of the earth - men and animals, and creatures that move along the ground, and the birds of the air - for I am grieved that I have made them”’ (verse 7). The resulting flood causes terrible destruction. It is a reversal of creation. The division between earth and the waters, which God established on the first day of creation, is undone. There is a return to the chaos which existed before the world was made, as, once again, water covers the earth (see Genesis I:2).

About this passage This passage relates to the story of Noah. Where he built the ark and there was the flood. The Lord had sent this flood because he was upset that his creation did lots of sin and evil.

Genesis 7: For forty days the flood kept coming on the earth, and as the waters increased they lifted the ark high above the earth. 18 The waters rose and increased greatly on the earth, and the ark floated on the surface of the water. 19 They rose greatly on the earth, and all the high mountains under the entire heavens were covered. 20 The waters rose and covered the mountains to a depth of more than fifteen cubits. 21 Every living thing that moved on land perished – birds, livestock, wild animals, all the creatures that swarm over the earth, and all mankind. 22 Everything on dry land that had the breath of life in its nostrils died. 23 Every living thing on the face of the earth was wiped out; people and animals and the creatures that move along the ground and the birds were wiped from the earth. Only Noah was left, and those with him in the ark. 24 The waters flooded the earth for a hundred and fifty days.

Image of the verse… This image represents the Bible verse on the previous slide. This is when the Flood happened. Everything was washed by the flood, all the living creatures including man and animals.

Genesis 8: Then Noah built an altar to the Lord and, taking some of all the clean animals and clean birds, he sacrificed burnt offerings on it. 21 The Lord smelled the pleasing aroma and said in his heart: “Never again will I curse the ground because of humans, even though every inclination of the human heart is evil from childhood. And never again will I destroy all living creatures, as I have done. 22 “As long as the earth endures, seedtime and harvest, cold and heat, summer and winter, day and night will never cease.”

Image of this verse…. This picture is when Noah sacrificed burnt offerings to God. That was when God said in his heart that he will never curse the ground because of humans.
