Early Years  Jennifer Lopez was born and grew up in Castle Hill, a neighborhood in the Bronx, New York. She is the daughter of Puerto Rican parents Guadalupe Rodríguez, a kindergarten teacher, and David Lopez, a computer specialist.  In 1990 she became a back up dancer for a music video and later on for a movie.

Television Career  Lopez first appeared in the television series South Central.  Lopez also made a guest appearance Second Chances and Hotel Malibu.  Lopez is one of the highest-paid actresses in Hollywood and the highest- paid Latin actress in Hollywood history, though she's never had a film grossing over $100 million in the U.S.

Music career  Lopez's debut album On the 6, a reference to the 6 subway line she used to take growing up in Castle Hill was released on June 1, 1999, and reached the top ten of the Billboard 200.  The album also featured a Spanish language, Latin-flavored duet "No Me Ames" with Marc Anthony (who later would become her husband.  Lopez's second album, J.Lo, was released on January 23, 2001 and debuted at number one on the Billboard 200.
