Low levels of dissolved salts (less than.1%) Lakes & Ponds

Eutrophic Lakes: rich in organic matter and vegetation (water is shallow,warm and murky), some can be considered swamps, bogs, wetlands, etc. “Old” Lakes

Oligotrophic Lakes: Low level of organic matter and vegetation (water is deeper, colder and clear) with sandy or rocky bottom. “Young” Lakes

Lakes & Ponds: Animals Variety of fish: (bass, pike, panfish, catfish) amphibians, otters, beavers, ducks, geese, wading birds

Lakes & Ponds: Insects Variety of microscopic invertebrates: insect larvae

Lakes & Ponds: Environmental Concerns Problems: Eutrophication, pollution from industry, alien species, and acid deposition
