Birth…. Otto Stern was born on February 17 th, He was born in Shorau, Upper Silesia, Germany. Otto Stern on the right side.

School Years… moved to Breslau, to attend high school. Received Ph.D. from University of Breslau in Went to University of Frankfort in 1914.

Work Years…. From 1921 to 1922 he was Associate Professor of Theoretical Physics at the University of Rostock. In 1923, Otto Stern became Professor of Physical Chemistry and Director of the laboratory at University of Hamburg.

Work Years Continued… He became Professor of Physics at the Carnegie Institute of Technology, Pittsburgh until That same year he became the professor of emeritus.

Experimental Physics… Otto Stern developed the molecular beam method. He proved it to be a powerful tool for investigating properties of atoms and atomic nuclei.

Experimental Physics (cont’d)… One early application was an experimental verification of Maxwell's law of velocity distribution in gases. His work on the production of interference by rays of hydrogen and helium was a striking demonstration of the wave nature of atoms and molecules.

Awards He Received… awarded an LL.D. by the University of California, Berkeley, 1930 He was a member of the National Academy of Sciences (USA). the American Association for the Advancement of Science
