NEXTGEN GENERIC PROCEDURE TEMPLATE IMPLANON INSERTION/REMOVAL DEMONSTRATION This demonstration reviews how to document insertion and removal of Implanon. This also illustrates the use of the Generic Procedure Template. This has been prepared with EHR and KBM 7.9. Subsequent updates may display cosmetic and functional changes. Use the keyboard or mouse to pause, review, and resume as necessary. There is no audio with this exercise.

Notes There is not a dedicated template in NextGen to deal with Implanon insertion or removal, so we need to use the Generic Procedure template. While you can search for the necessary diagnosis and procedure codes, it will helpful to know these codes ahead of time, perhaps by keeping them on a “cheatsheet” in the office: – Insertion: Diagnosis code V25.5, Procedure code – Removal: Diagnosis code V25.43, Procedure code

In OBGYN, you can access the Procedure Template from this link on the Nav Bar. You can also go directly to the Generic template by clicking the Generic link on the Exam/Proc tab.

On the Procedure Template, click Generic.

As with most procedure templates, you can use the checkboxes to indicate appropriate preoperative discussions took place. You can also click Consent to generate a full consent form, though it many cases it will be simpler for clinics to use the paper consent forms they already have, scanning them into NextGen after completion.

This is what the generic consent template looks like. It is a useful tool if you don’t already have a consent form tailored to the procedure you’re performing.

The Indication Description and Code boxes are where you document the diagnosis for the procedure. As mentioned earlier, the easiest method is to click in the Code box, bringing up this popup. When this popup appears, type V25.5.

The desired code will be displayed. Double-click on this.

Similarly, click in the Procedure Code box, then type Double-click on this line when it displays.

Use the checkboxes and popups in the Anesthesia section to indicate the local anesthetic you used.

Use the appropriate text boxes to add any other notes as needed. Specify follow-up plans as desired. When done, click Submit to Superbill, then Save and Close.

If this is a procedure you expect to use often in the future, you can save it as a preset. Click the Save icon.

Give your preset a name, then click Save and Close.

Click Offline Proc Note to generate a procedure note in the background. You could also click Preview Proc Note to generate the note in real time, if desired. Review and edit to your satisfaction.

Another thing to remember about the Generic Procedure Template: Unlike the dedicated procedure templates, which often submit the charge for both the procedure and medication/device, the Generic Procedure Template only posts the procedure charge to the superbill. To post the charge for the Implanon device, click Office Services on either the Intake or SOAP tabs.

Set Display order set to Office Meds, then scroll down and select Implanon. In the Detail box, type Done, then click Submit to Superbill, followed by Place Order and Close.

To document the removal of an Implanon, the method is similar, except you would select the diagnosis code of V25.43 for the indication, and the procedure code
