Scientists Here is some information about William Henry, John Dalton, Ernest Rutherford and James Prescott Joule

Births William Henry was born on the 9th of February 1773 in Charles City Country, England. John Dalton was born on the 6th of September 1766 in Cockermouth, England. Ernest Rutherford was born on the 30th of August 1871 in Nelson, New Zealand. James Prescott Joule was born on the 24th of December 1818 in Salford, England.

Interesting Facts When ill health forced William Henry to retire from medical practice, he turned to chemistry.  John Dalton pioneered studies of atomic theory. Ernest Rutherford led the exploration of nuclear physics. James Prescott Joule was an English physicist who studied the nature of heat and established its relationship to mechanical work.

Inventions William Henry was the man who invented the photographic process. John Dalton was the man who discovered colour blindness. Ernest Rutherford was the man who invented the way to detect electromagnetic waves. James Prescott Joule was the man who invented the Joule. The Joule is a unit of energy which measures heat, electricity and mechanical work.

Deaths William Henry died on the 4th of April 1841 because he shot himself. John Dalton died on the 27th of July 1844 because he fell from his bed and was found lifeless by his assistant. Ernest Rutherford died on the 19th of October 1937 because an umbilical hernia was left un-operated on for too long. James Prescott Joule died on the 11th of October 1889 because he was walking through a field and he didn’t realise that there was really short wind turbines in front of him and he walked straight into one so he was spun around for hours and hours before he fell down. He went to hospital and it turned out he was ok. He was walking out of the hospital, slipped, and died.
