RIBI Competition  Aim is to encourage young people to:  Experiment with photography.  Use either digital or traditional methods of photography.  Show interpretation of a given topic RYP Competition is open to young people 17 or under on the 31st August Junior 7 – 10 years Intermediate 11 – 13 years Senior: aged 14 – 17+ years Life through a lens The theme for 2012 is “Olympic Dreams” or “Olympic Spirit” with entrants choosing their own topic within the theme.

The District 1040 Rotary Young Photographer 20__ (“RYP”) provides an excellent opportunity for opportunity for Rotary Clubs to offer young people the opportunity to channel this activity and use their imagination in a thought provoking and productive way and receive recognition for their effort and achievement. Cost is minimal and the key is participation and expression rather than technical capability. 20__ RYP Haworth and Worth Valley Photographic Competition winner category Tom Lee - age 10

The competition is aimed at attracting as wide a range of participation as possible (irrespective of access to technical equipment) and providing a sense of recognition and achievement for all participants by creating distinctive and imaginative images based on the theme. Entries should be original, unedited single images (i.e. not collages or composites) taken by the entrants themselves. Competition At District level “RYP” is being co-ordinated through the New Generations Committee and we hope to build on the pilot we ran last year. This year we are focusing on local club and district level competitions only rather than tie in with the National RIBI competition. This means there are only two stages – Club and District competitions. Clubs have the option to offer small prizes and or certificates (for “winners” or as they see fit).

Format, key dates Format, Key dates and Stages of the competition There will be two stages in the Young Photographer Competition. The Rotary Club Competition, to be completed by 1st March 20__ and the winner in each age category sent to the District Co-ordinator (Caretaker Trevor Woodward) by that date. The District Competition, to be completed by 1st April 20__ N.B. photographs of all people under 18 must be accompanied by written permission of parent/guardian or carer of the subject of the photograph
