Questions?

Solving Equations with Variables on Both Sides Objective: To learn to solve equations with variables on both sides of the equation.  To solve an equation that has variables on both sides: After you simplify each side of the equation, you must use the Addition or Subtraction Properties of Equality to move the all variables to one side of the equation.

Example 1 Solve and Check. 3m + 2 = -6 – m

Example 2 Solve and Check. 2(n – 6) = 9n + 2

Example 3 Solve and Check. 4g + 7 – 2g = 5g – 2

Example 4 Solve and Check. 4(n – 2) = 6n + 5 – 2n

Example 5 Solve and Check. 8(3f – 4) = 4(6f – 8)

Apply! Ben can buy a skateboard from a friend for $60 and rent the safety equipment for $1.50 per hour or he can rent the skateboard and safety equipment for $5.50 per hour. How many hours must you use the skateboard to justify buying it?

Practice! Solve and Check. 1)4 – 4y = -2(2y – 2) 2)4x – 3 = 2x +5 3)-6z + 8 = z + 10 – 7z
