Investment Vocabulary

Stock Market  A market in which the public trades stock that someone already owns; the buying and selling of stock.

Stock  Shares of a particular company or corporation

Stockbrokers  A broker, especially one employed by a member firm of a stock exchange  Who buys and sells stocks and other securities for customers

Investors  To put (money) to use  Purchasing or expenditure  Offering potential profitable returns, as interest, income, or appreciation in value.

Profit  obtain a financial advantage or benefit

Market Value  Value of a business, property, etc.  In terms of what it can be sold for on the open market (current value)

Commission  A service charge assessed by a broker or investment advisor in return for providing investment advice and/or handling the purchase or sale of a security.

Trading  Any type of event that triggers a securities trade.

Dividends  A sum of money paid to shareholders of a corporation out of earnings.

Decision Making  Reaching a conclusion after considering alternatives and their results.

Economic Efficiency  A situation in which no one in a society can be made better off without making someone else worse off.
