Software installation for commissioning tests Olivier Deschamps Calorimeter commissioning meeting – 05 april 2007

Software installation Software installation on Crack Account on online system and Crack available since monday on farm pit : lbgw.cern.ch (gateway) on Crack : lbcrack2li1.cern.ch Crack node accessible since yesterday : crack2nodeX please check your account/passwd and report to Suman in case of problem LHCb software pre-installed (/lhcb/sw/slc4/lhcb/) essentially the ONLINE project v3r1 and dependency (LHCB v22r2) ORWELL package and dependencies (condDB) uploaded yesterday (thanks Markus) Install and compile in my home directory all packages we will/may need to modify Calib/Orwell << Calo Calibration application Calib/CaloCalib << Calo Calibration algorithm Calo/CaloDAQ << TELL1 data decoding Online/OnlineTasks << EventBuilder Online/GaudiOnline << EventBuilder Det/SQLDDDB << condDB some scripts to setup and launch the eventBuilder also installed

Software installation Software installation on Crack (cont’) No real difficulties encountered but few minor issues quickly fixed by the Online group (thanks to Niko, Radu, Suman, Markus) standard remote installation of Orwell project and dependencies (condDB) ‘clock skew’ error when compiling Account error on crack2nodeX lbcrack2li1 not mounted on crack2nodex Pending issues : Difficulties to set-up CVS would be useful to commit/checkout modification in the codes « QT module » not available required for Graphical Interface to condDB needed to update the cabling scheme used for the test (FE->TELL1) indirect solution exists : change DB on lxplus, ftp on crack Expected to be fixed today but no show-stopper anyway  Software essentially in place on the CRack

Pre-commissioning test in Bdg 156 To do during hardware installation : Fill condDB with the actual cabling scheme used for the test Set-up the eventBuilder chain (Tell1 IPs, …) Tests to be done : 1)Acquire TELL1 output and store data on disk  ‘Offline’ analysis a) MEP = 1 single event  write MDF file b) MEP = bunch of consecutive bunch-crossing events  write Root file (see below) 2) Online Orwell run on the incoming data and store histograms output on disk Consecutive bunch-crossings The eventBuilder can be set-up to store consecutive bunch-X in a single Gaudi-Event set-up ODIN and TELL1 to produce MEP from a bunch of consecutive BCID events Special EventBuilder decode MEP and populate several rawEvent in TES at different locations : Event/Prev1/DAQ/rawEvent ; Event/Next1/DAQ/rawEvent The Gaudi-Event can be stored as root file using the DSTwriter as used in Boole

Pre-commissioning test in Bdg 156 Consecutive bunch-crossings (cont’) With the current release of Orwell algorithm the consecutive events can only be analysed as ‘independant’ events  run Orwell independantly on the various consecutive RawEvents i.e. cannot correlate the consecutive signals, e.g. cannot produce the histogram of the ADC for the Prev1 bunch-X in a given channel when signal is detected in the same channel at T0.  Can only have histo for Prev1 independantly of T0. Need to modify CaloCalib algorithms to handle simultaneously consecutive Bunch-X.

Software installation in the farm pit Software installation on farm node No yet started due to yesterday power cut of the online system Essentially the same steps as in the Crack No difficulties expected Running software to be installed in the /group/calo/ directory Software installation normally should go via the standard installation procedure releasing/tagging/installing (request to Marco C. then Joel) quite heavy during test/commissioning period Need CVS to be in place for fast modification/re-installation Storage system Online group testing the high-speed filewriting should be available for storing Tell1 data/histogram for our tests Temporary solution for next week if the not fully ready Need to discuss the test schedule with Radu to set-up the storage chain Histogram publishing via DIM DNS Discussion with Monitoring group ongoing Test to be scheduled but probably difficult for this week

Summary Software essentially in place on Crack for pre-commissioning few minor issues to be fixed today Installation in the farm will follow this week What we’ll learn (hopefully) with pre-commissioning : get more experience with the full DAQ chain & online set-up Check/debug hardware/software consistency Tell1 data format, condDB description of the cabling scheme, … treatment of consecutive bunch-crossings improvement to be foreseen in the Calibration algorithm Histogramming/Monitoring system
