Buckner is a multi-service agency that serves children and the elderly both in Texas and abroad. Buckner holds to the policies, principles and doctrines of the Baptist faith. For over 130 years, Buckner has cared for the diversified needs of those Jesus called “the least of these.”

Shoes for Orphan Souls (SOS), is a ministry of Buckner International, which provides new shoes and socks to orphans and vulnerable children throughout the world. Since 1999, 2.2 million pairs of new shoes and socks have been distributed to children in 73 countries.

PERU Located in western South America, on the South Pacific Ocean, between Chile and Ecuador, slightly smaller than Alaska with a population of 28,674,757 (2007 estimate) Language: Spanish (official), Quechua (official), Religions: Roman Catholic 81%, Seventh Day Adventist 1.4%, other Christian 0.7%, other 0.6%, unspecified or none 16.3% Orphans and at-risk children There are almost 50,000 orphans in Peru. 17,000 children have been orphaned by AIDS. 66% or 6.5 million of all children in Peru live in poverty. Over 10,000 street children live in Lima. 50,000 children are at-risk due to various issues. There are 33 government orphanages in Peru.

Basic Itinerary Lima, Peru - work with children at several orphanages (1-2 per day) in the city and the surrounding area. At the orphanages, each child will be fitted with a new pair of shoes and humanitarian aid distributed while building relationships with the children through a VBS program. Cusco, Peru - spend time at two orphanages in Cusco, tour the ancient Incan city, Machu Picchu, and return to Lima for flight home.
