II Samuel 21:15-22 15Once again there was a battle between the Philistines and Israel. David went down with his men to fight against the Philistines, and he became exhausted.

II Samuel 21:15-22 16And Ishbi-Benob, one of the descendants of Rapha, whose bronze spearhead weighed three hundred shekels and who was armed with a new sword, said he would kill David.

II Samuel 21:15-22 17But Abishai son of Zeruiah came to David’s rescue; he struck the Philistine down and killed him. Then David’s men swore to him, saying, “Never again will you go out with us to battle, so that the lamp of Israel will not be extinguished.”

II Samuel 21:15-22 18In the course of time, there was another battle with the Philistines, at Gob. At that time Sibbecai the Hushathite killed Saph, one of the descendants of Rapha.

II Samuel 21:15-22 19In another battle with the Philistines at Gob, Elhanan son of Jaare-Oregim the Bethlehemite killed Goliath the Gittite, who had a spear with a shaft like a weaver’s rod.

II Samuel 21:15-22 20In still another battle, which took place at Gath, there was a huge man with six fingers on each hand and six toes on each foot – twenty-four in all. He also was descended from Rapha.

II Samuel 21:15-22 21When he taunted Israel, Jonathan son of Shimeah, David’s brother, killed him. 22These four were descendants of Rapha in Gath, and they fell at the hands of David and his men.

Our Goliath is always stalking us Our Goliath is always stalking us. He vies for the bedside position, hoping to be the first voice you hear each morning.

If you dread the day before you begin your day, mark it down: your giant has been by your bed.

Goliaths still roam our world: Debt Disaster Dialysis Danger Deceit Disease Depression 13

You know how to deal with them. You pick up five stones and make five decisions, just like David did.

1. The Stone Of The Past.

Goliath jogged David’s memory. 34 But David said to Saul, “Your servant was tending his father’s sheep. When a lion or a bear came and took a lamb from the flock, 35 I went out after him and attacked him, and rescued it from his mouth; and when he rose up against me, I seized him by his beard and struck him and killed him. 36 “Your servant has killed both the lion and the bear; and this uncircumcised Philistine will be like one of them, since he has taunted the armies of the living God.” (I Samuel 17:34 -36)

A good memory makes heroes. A bad memory makes wimps A good memory makes heroes. A bad memory makes wimps. Remember His wonderful deeds which He has done, His marvels and the judgments from His mouth. (I Chronicles 16:12) Catalog God’s success!

Write today’s worries in the sand Write today’s worries in the sand. Chisel yesterday’s victories in stone.

2. The Stone Of The Prayer.

Before going high, David went low; before ascending to fight, David descended to pray.

With all prayer and petition pray at all times in the Spirit, and with this in view, be on the alert with all perseverance and petition for all the saints. (Ephesians 6:18)

Prayer spawned David’s success Prayer spawned David’s success. His “Brook Besor” wisdom grew out of the moment he “strengthened himself in the Lord his God” (I Samuel 30:6b).

When Saul’s soldiers tried to capture him, David turned toward God When Saul’s soldiers tried to capture him, David turned toward God. But as for me, I shall sing of Your strength; yes, I shall joyfully sing of Your loving kindness in the morning, for You have been my stronghold and a refuge in the day of my distress. (Psalms 59:16)

How do you survive a fugitive life in the caves? 1Be gracious to me, O God, be gracious to me, for my soul takes refuge in You; and in the shadow of Your wings I will take refuge until destruction passes by. 2 I will cry to God Most High, to God who accomplishes all things for me. (Psalms 57:1-2)

God’s Promise: “The steadfast of mind You will keep in perfect peace, because He trusts in You. (Isaiah 26:3) Stay “FIXED” on God!

3. The Stone Of The Priority.

David saw Goliath as a chance for God to show off! David fought so that “all the earth may know that there is a God in Israel... for the battle is the Lord’s” (I Samuel 17:46-47). David saw Goliath as a chance for God to show off!

What if you saw your giant in the same way?

4. The Stone Of The Passion.

David ran toward, not from his giant (l Samuel 17:48) What good has problem pondering gotten you? listing hurts won’t heal them itemizing problems won’t solve them categorizing rejections won’t remove them

David lobotomized the giant because he emphasized the Lord!

5. The Stone Of The Persistence.

Wouldn’t one rock do?

Then Ishbi-benob, who was among the descendants of the giant, the weight of whose spear was three hundred shekels of bronze in weight, was girded with a new sword, and he intended to kill David. (II Samuel 21:16) Saph - “one of the sons of the giant” (II Samuel 21:18) 34

Then there was another, “the brother of Goliath, the Gittite, the shaft of whose spear was like a weaver’s beam” (II Samuel 21:19) Then there was King Kong - “had 6 fingers on each hand and six toes on each foot, twenty-four in number; and he also had been born to the giant.” (II Samuel 21:20)

David was ready to empty the clip if that’s what it took. Why five stones? David was ready to empty the clip if that’s what it took. Imitate him. Never give up! 36

David took five stones. He made five decisions. Do the same: PAST PRAYER PRIORITY PASSION PERSISTENCE
