Presentation transcript:

Greg Mortenson tries to climb the second highest mountain in the world. He doesn’t succeed and gets lost at the bottom. Then he eventually finds Muzafer his guide and they go to Skardu.

Greg finds Korphe a Pakistani town and has tea with Haji Ali the town chief. He also meets Haji Ali’s wife, son and granddaughter. He also finds out that there is no school and the children go to school on a tundra like place.

Greg tells the Korphe people he is going to build a school so the children don’t have to go to school on the cold hard ground. Greg goes back to America and children start a program and raise over $600 for the school in Pakistan.

Greg talks about his childhood and his sister Christa. When he was a child he lived in Africa. Then he went to high school and was told he wasn’t African because he’s white not African.

Greg sends 580 letters to famous or wealthy people and only one person sends him a check, Tom Brokaw a television news anchor South Dakota. Greg becomes disappointed of the response to his school building efforts.

Greg has to by everything for building the Korphe school. Abdul Shah a watchman knew Greg and helped him get affordable supplies.

Greg was going back to Korphe with the supplies he bought. Twaha helped Greg use the boxcar to go across the river. Haji Ali said that many climbers make promises but forget when they get home but he knew that Greg was different.

G reg needs to build a bridge to get the children to the school and to get supplies across. Greg then goes back to America to raise more money to be able to build the bridge.

Greg, Twaha, and some other men went hunting for Ibex. Ibex are large, muscular mountain goats that have remarkable curling horns.

 In chapter10 Greg and the other men in the village started working on the bridge. Then, a man named George McCown came and Greg gave him some money to give to the people of Korphe so they would think there were more americans involved.

 Greg got invited to a party for a man that wanted to set off an expedition. Greg met a woman named Tara Bishop. They both fell in love and they started dating.

Greg went to Skardu to get his supplies but a man said that he had to wait till a month or two. Then a man named Ghulam Parvi helped him get his supplies back without waiting. When he got back to Korphe they never started the foundation.

Haji Ali teaches Greg the most important lesson of his life. He was taught to slow down, take 3 cups of tea and learn more about the people he works with rather than to hope to teach them more about himself.

In chapter 14 Greg went to a different village and he got kidnapped. When Greg woke up for the thousandth time he noticed that there was a Time magazine beside his bed and the kidnappers offered him cups of tea.

In chapter 15 Greg made it back to Montana for the birth of his daughter. Then, when he made it to Korphe Greg and the other men of the village finally finished the school.

 In chapter 16 Greg goes to other villages to build more schools. Greg also needed to give the villages resources like water, food, and medicine.

 In chapter 17 Greg heard about a war going on and went back to the villages. When he got to pakistan there were a bunch of refugees that ran away from their homes to escape the war. Greg would try to build refugee schools and resources.

In chapter 18 the CAI has to much stuff and not enough money. Greg needs to find a way to get more money.

In chapter19 the Twin Towers fell. The villages are sorry for what happened and Greg is in danger.

Greg gave a reporter an interview. When he got back to America he had a bunch of s thanking him for what he is doing.

In chapter 21 Greg was at a meeting and Haji Ali’s granddaughter Jahan interrupted the meeting and reminded Greg of his promise.

Greg delivered money to Afghanistan so villages could get their schools started that Greg built.
