DNA Replication Activity 1. On one piece of adding machine tape, create a full double-stranded DNA molecule by writing the correct base pairs down each side of the paper (remember the base-pair rules). You must include at least five of each base pair, and your strand must be at least 20 base pairs long. Use only one color of marker. 2. Trade with another student.

DNA Replication Activity 3. Using scissors carefully cut your paper, lengthwise, between the two strands. (What process does this simulate?) 4. Place the cut strands in an upside down “V” shape to model that the top of the strands would still be connected during the replication process.

DNA Replication Activity 5. Obtain your second piece of adding machine paper. Carefully cut it in half, lengthwise. 6. Place one half of each blank paper next to and in between the two original (parent) strands. 7. Using a different colored marker, write in the complementary strand to match each original (parent) strand. The replication process is now complete.
