Most revealing detail The mountains surrounding the artwork. Storm King's wave field by Maya Lin is a very good example of artwork that is completely sculpted from nature. The waves are tall, and once you step inside or on top of the "waves," it feels like you're lost in the wave field, or in the sea. Also, since the mountains in the back are much taller, it makes the waves look smaller. Once you're able to step inside the wave field, you can see these mountains, and it makes it look as though you're surrounded by even bigger waves, making you feel like you'll never be able to get out of the ocean.

The second most interesting detail In Maya Lin’s “Wave field” at the storm king art center is a good example of something on a large scale that is still very simple. One detail that I noticed is that the waves themselves were eroded on one side, and green grass on the other. This was most likely not supposed to be in the artwork, but I believe that this is a good thing. “Wave field” is depicting waves of the ocean. But with the wind blowing on one side reminds me of sand dunes, and how the wind pushes them across the desert

Maya Lin-1959 to present Born in Athens Ohio, Maya Lin first came into the public eye in 1981 for her design of the Vietnam memorial. Now the painter, architect, and sculptor continues to make works of art big and small, described by Lin herself as” trying to make a personal space for the viewer.” Maya Lin-1959, studied at Yale and graduated as an architect, sculptor and artist. She is best known for her project, the Vietnam memorial. Her work often ties nature and art together, saying, “ I am always trying to reveal in my art a little bit about nature, that literally is invisible to us.” This is the third wave field in the series and has the largest waves. You can see Lin’s past in her wave field through many aspects, it is large, connected to nature, being literally made of the land, and creating a personal space for the viewer. It creates and intriguing landscape the viewer can’t help but climb and get lost in her work; this is similar to many of her memorials that allow the viewer to get up close in personal with her work and understand it in a way they never could form afar. In this work she also attempts to subtly reframe a familiar viewpoint, as with a landscape or a war. Usually to help get her love of nature and science, by taking a familiar thing and nature and changing it to give the viewer a new perspective.

Interacting with the environment Storm King’s Wave Field by Maya Lin conveys the idea that something normally out of place can seem like it belongs, even appearing more powerful than its surroundings. The foot waves of grass were not subtle against the backdrop of deciduous trees, hills and nearby lake but still fit the scene. The decision to place the waves next to regular hills, not formed by a creative mind for the purpose of art, reveals the difference between the two landforms that otherwise are seemingly similar at first glance. Placing the waves next to a lake was an especially interesting decision because the Wave Field is supposed to mimic waves of water. There is contrast between the real water and the imitation; the Wave Field, although artificially placed, appears as the more dominant element. The Wave Field interacts with its environment as a commanding force without drawing too much attention away from the natural beauty of the vicinal habitat.
