MULTIPLE SCLEROSIS BY: ARAVIND GNANASEKARAN ISHAAN PATEL

DEFINITION MULTIPLE SCLEROSIS IS A DISEASE IN WHICH YOUR IMMUNE SYSTEM ATTACKS THE PROTECTIVE SHEATH (MYELIN) THAT COVERS YOUR NERVES. MYELIN DAMAGE MESSES UP COMMUNICATION BETWEEN YOUR BRAIN AND THE REST OF YOUR BODY. THE NERVES THEMSELVES MAY DETERIORATE, WHICH CURRENTLY HAS NO CURE

SYMPTOMS SIGNS AND SYMPTOMS VARY, DEPENDING ON THE AMOUNT OF DAMAGE AND WHICH NERVES ARE AFFECTED. SOME PEOPLE WITH SEVERE MS MAY LOSE THE ABILITY TO WALK INDEPENDENTLY OR AT ALL MUSCLE STIFFNESS OR SPASMS PARALYSIS, TYPICALLY IN THE LEGS PROBLEMS WITH BLADDER, BOWEL OR SEXUAL FUNCTION MENTAL CHANGES, SUCH AS FORGETFULNESS OR MOOD SWINGS DEPRESSION EPILEPSY

CAUSES CAUSES ARE NOT KNOWN

RISK FACTORS MOSTLY AFFECTS PEOPLE IN WOMEN ARE TWICE AS LIKELY TO GET IT THAN MEN SMOKING MAKES IT MORE LIKELY TO GET IT IF SOMEONE IN YOUR FAMILY HAD MS IT WILL BE MORE LIKELY FOR YOU TO GET IT

COMPLICATIONS WHEELCHAIR MAY BE REQUIRED DAILY MEDICATIONS FOR BLADDER HIGH PRECAUTIONS FOR SEIZURES AND STROKES
