1 Hybrid Libraries and information Clumps: a view from the UK Paul Miller Interoperability Focus UK Office for Library & Information Networking (UKOLN) UKOLN is funded by the Library and Information Commission, the Joint Information Systems Committee (JISC) of the Higher Education Funding Councils, as well as by project funding from the JISC and the European Union. UKOLN also receives support from the Universities of Bath and Hull where staff are based.

2 The road to today… 1993 Joint Funding Council’s Review of Libraries (“The Follett Report”) – 1994– Electronic Libraries Programme (eLib) –£15,000,000 over three years for Phases 1 and 2 – JFC Review – Library Provision for Research (“The Anderson Report”) –

3 JISC Joint Information Systems Committee –“…to stimulate and enable the cost–effective exploitation of information systems and to provide a high quality national network infrastructure…” –‘development’ not ‘research’ –Funded by ‘top–slice’ from the Higher Education Funding Councils for England, Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland –Funds eLib, the JISC Data Centres, UKOLN, the Focus posts, etc..
