Adjectives modify nouns and pronouns. They answer the questions: What kind? Which one? How many? How much? blue ocean those swimmers many waves less sunscreen Proper adjectives are formed from proper nouns. They are capitalized and often end in –n, -an, -ian, - ese, or –ish. American cuisine Japanese furniture

Articles are the most common adjectives. Indefinite Articles: aan Refer to any member of a general group Ex: Julie went to see a movie Definite Article: the Refer to someone or something in particular Ex: The U.S. flag is red, white, and blue.

Demonstrative Adjectives include this, that, these, and those and modify a noun or pronoun. These bags are heavy. That sound is annoying. Demonstrative Pronouns include this, that, these, and those and stand alone. Please hold these for me. Why won’t she stop that?

Possessive Adjectives are possessive pronouns and nouns that modify a noun or pronoun. My cat is eighteen years old. That is Susie’s book on the desk. Please sit quietly in your seat.

Underline each adjective once and each article twice. Then, above each article, write D for definite and I for indefinite. 1.The ripe berries attracted two birds and many squirrels. 2.Everyone enjoys a relaxing day at the beach. 3.Listening to the regular sound of waves hitting the beach can sooth upset nerves.

Underline all of the adjectives but not the articles. Underline twice the noun/pronoun that the adjective(s) modify. 1.I can see about ten umbrellas from where I am standing. 2.Those umbrellas protect sensitive skin from harmful sunlight. 3.I usually sunbathe in a place with fewer people, away from the crowd.

Identify each underlined word in the following sentences by writing above it DA for demonstrative adjective or DP for demonstrative pronoun. 1.This wind cuts like a knife. 2.This must be the coldest day of winter. 3.Hand me that book on the shelf. 4.Place those in the box.

Underline all common adjectives once and all proper adjectives twice. Do not underline articles. 1.I have learned to prepare delicious Japanese sushi. 2.I love your Australian accent! 3.I am studying Roman architecture as well as modern styles of building.
