Responsibilities of the RAF Today you will know the Responsibilities of the RAF. You will apply your understanding to your assignment.

The Royal Air Force Their Responsibilities

The Responsibilities of the RAF 1.The main responsibility of the Royal Air Force (RAF) at home is to defend UK airspace. 2.At home they also have a responsibility to operates as a search and rescue service at sea and on land. 3.Abroad they have a responsibility to operate both as a fighting and peacekeeping force. 4.They also have a responsibility to brings aid to the victims of war and natural disaster. 5.They also have a responsibility to promote diversity.

To defend UK airspace. The RAF has a responsibility to defend out airspace. To do this they carry out aerial patrols to intercept opposition aircraft. They also carry out a number of different offensive operations. These include disrupting enemy communications, destroying radar sites etc

To operates as a search and rescue service at sea and on land. The RAF has a fleet of Sea King helicopters. These are used in search and rescue roles (SAR). The aircraft are operated from six locations around the UK, with each location supporting two aircraft. They also operate in the Falkland Islands. The SAR squadrons provide 24-hour cover around the UK and the Falkland Islands throughout each year. Each squadron maintains a 15-minutes readiness state during daylight hours and a 45-minutes readiness state during the hours of darkness. They can operate to precise navigational standards and each aircraft is fitted with a multi-band homing system, satellite navigation systems, search radar, a comprehensive avionics suite and a large selection of radios. For its rescue role, the aircraft is equipped with a hydraulically-operated main rescue hoist and an electrically-operated emergency rescue hoist, The are also fitted with a video/infrared detection pod, to help search for casualties. All SAR crews are trained to operate using night-vision goggles over unfamiliar terrain.

To operate both as a fighting and peacekeeping force. RAF personnel are trained to work alongside those from the Royal Navy and Army in their operational deployments. The RAF support the Navy and the Army on the three main types of operations: 1.Reconnaissance and surveillance (e.g. locating enemy troop positions and stores) 2.Air transport (e.g long-range movement of personnel, equipment or aid using aircraft such as the Tristar or localised transport involving helicopters such as the Chinook) 3.Air-to-air-refuelling which is used to extend an aircraft's range.

To bring aid to the victims of war and natural disaster. Whether a disaster has been caused by nature or by man is immaterial the RAF will be there providing aid. Examples include providing food and necessities in the aftermath of massive flooding in Mozambique. They also help to provide aid for victims of earthquakes and war.

To promote diversity. The RAF work with the Equality and Human Rights Commission They work together to eliminate discrimination, reduce inequality, protect human rights and to build good relations, ensuring that everyone has a fair chance to participate in society. This means that they recruit people of all races, gender age etc.
