The Year 6 visit to a Mexican restaurant in Watford showed us how different cultures make up Britain and are reflected in our High Street We enjoyed tasting food from Mexico too!

They were also visited by a Minister from the Baptist Church who explained the importance of the Bible to Christians. Year 1 were visited by the Imam who talked about the importance of the Qur’an to Muslims.

Year 2 class visited St John’s Church in Mill End. Father Mark showed the class around and they learnt about the different parts of a church.

Children in Early Years visit the local area and find out about local businesses. We also learn about people in our community, such as the postman.

The Great Fire of London Year 2 visited the London Fire Brigade Museum. We were lucky enough to see the first machine that was used to put out fires. We learnt how the Fire Brigade was set up due to the disastrous Great Fire of London, in which people had to run to the River Thames to get water to put the fire out. We also saw the changes to the uniform over the years and how to stay safe during a fire.

Year 5 Trip to Radlet Synagogue We were allowed to try on a Kippah and a Tallit –the prayer shawl. Traditionally worn by men, but as Radlett is a Reform Synagogue, they are worn by both men and women. The Torah Scrolls in the Ark We were allowed to look at the scrolls but not touch them. As part of our RE topic Y 5 visited the Radlet Reform Synagogue.

Our local PCSOs (Police Community Support Officers) visited to talk to us all about Internet Safety.

Recycling Year 3 had a special visitor who showed us how important it is to recycle both in school and at home. Everyone made a moving animal out of a cereal box

We were visited by Cllr Chris Lloyd from the Three Rivers District Council. He spoke to us about how he was elected for his role and the important things he has to do as a District Councillor to ensure the district runs smoothly.

Pedestrian Skills Year 4 & 6 learnt the rules of the road during ‘Pedestrian skills’ and ‘Distractions’ training

On 9 th June 2015, Malvern Way Infants, Arnett Hills, Little Green, Shepherd, Yorke Mead, Harvey Road, St Marys, Chorleywood, The Russell, Rickmansworth Park and Maple Cross Primary Schools all came together to learn about democracy. Each school was represented by two of their school councillors Listening, sharing ideas and learning together British Values Democracy

Thank you for having us! I must reiterate how impeccably the children behaved and the two year 6 girls were incredibly helpful and polite too. Thank you again, it was an honour to be able to do something for the school. Kind regards, Jumana Mr & Mrs Ebrahim, parents with children at Shepherd Primary School, came into assembly to talked to us about what it means to be a Muslim. The children had many questions to ask.

Our local PCSOs came in to talk to the Y6 pupils about drugs. They learned what they look like, what they can do to your body and the consequences of possession and dealing. It was a very informative talk.

Year 2 had a visitor from the local Synagogue who shared with them some Jewish traditions.

The Magistrates Court The Year 6 pupils were lucky enough to be visited by local magistrates. They told us how the British justice system works. We carried out a role play of a real life case, listening to the plea from the defendant followed by evidence from the prosecution and the defence. The judge then directed us to a verdict and sentence. It was huge fun and we learnt a lot.
