What is theme? A theme is a broad idea, message, or moral of a story. The message may be about life, society, or human nature. Themes often explore timeless and universal ideas and are almost always implied rather than stated explicitly.

What is a symbol? Symbol is the use of a concrete object to represent an abstract idea

What do these symbols represent? 

10 minutes: With a partner draw a symbol that is commonly known by most people. Think about symbols for countries, ideas, organizations, stores, computer icons, or games.
