Organic Waste Treatment

Waste management from the cafeteria can be divided by categories:  Food waste is managed by two methods: 1) sell directly to farm for animal feed. 2) Use for bio-fermentation process to create bio- fertilizer, bio-extract and household level biogas under KU-Green Bio-fertilizer and Biogas Projects.

KU bio-extract from food waste

Bio-gas production from water hyacinth

Bio-gas production from food waste

 Lipid waste is stored grease trap tank and transferred to Bangkok Metropolitan Administration for further disposal.  Used vegetable oil from food venders and third parties is transferred to KU-Biodiesel Production Plant to produce biodiesel using KUB-200 machine under the KU Green Campus Project.  The biodiesel is then used by KU-bus for free transportation within campus.

KU biodiesel station

 Organic waste including debris, twigs, and leaves are used to produce mulching materials through composition. In addition, the materials are applied to the garden throughout the campus under the KU Green Campus Project.
