Theme: “Victory (Palm) Sunday” John 12:9-19

John 12:9-19 Meanwhile a large crowd of Jews found out that Jesus was there (in Bethany) and came, not only because of him but also to see Lazarus, whom he had raised from the dead. So the chief priests made plans to kill Lazarus as well, for on account of him many of the Jews were going over to Jesus and putting their faith in him. The next day the great crowd that had come for the Feast heard that Jesus was on his way to Jerusalem.

John 12:9-19 They took palm branches and went out to meet him, shouting, “Hosanna!” “Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord!” [Psalm 118:25,26] “Blessed is the King of Israel!” Jesus found a young donkey and sat upon it, as it is written, “Do not be afraid, O Daughter of Zion; see, your king is coming, seated on a donkey’s colt.” [Zech. 9:9]

John 12:9-19 At first his disciples did not understand all this. Only after Jesus was glorified did they realise that these things had been written about him and that they had done these things to him. Now the crowd that was with him when he called Lazarus from the tomb and raised him from the dead continued to spread the word. Many people, because they had heard that he had given this miraculous sign, went out to meet him. So the Pharisees said to one another, “See, this is getting us nowhere. Look how the whole world has gone after him!”

1.The Authority of Christ- He is our Saviour & our Risen King

2. Christ’s triumph is always greater than we fully understand or imagine

3. Lay your needs & experiences before Jesus – at the foot of the empty cross

Offering-1 John 3:1 How great is the love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God! And that is what we are!

Communion-2 Corinthians 5:14-15,17 For Christ’s love compels us, because we are convinced that one died for all, and therefore all died. And he died for all, that those who live should no longer live for themselves but for him who died for them and was raised again. Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has gone, the new has come!
