CLINICAL SEQUENCE Shape Verify Obturate 1 2 3 Please consult the Directions for Use for more comprehensive instructions and clinical techniques Shape Verify Obturate Check passivity by taking the size verifier to working length and confirm by rotating in the canal 180°. Use the size verifier as a finishing file to gently enlarge the canal terminus if necessary When the final shape is a .04 taper, select a GuttaCore™ Obturator package one size smaller than the last file taken to working length. When the final shape is a .06 taper, select a GuttaCore™ Obturator package of the same size as the last file taken to working length. Carefully follow the clinical sequence of your shaping system 1 2 3 PRECAUTIONS Select the GuttaCore™ Obturator according to the GuttaCore™ size verifier that fits the shaped canal passively. GuttaCore™ Obturator cores should not be used as size verifiers. Do not remove gutta-percha from the apical section of GuttaCore™ Obturator prior to filling the root canal space. Removing the gutta-percha may damage the obturator.

Step-by-step instructions to place a gutta•coreTM crosslinked Gutta-Percha Core obturator. Please consult the Directions for Use manual for more comprehensive instructions and clinical techniques. Flare the canal coronally and ensure the gutta•coreTM obturator has sufficient space to enter the root canal. Use the gutta•coreTM size verifier to confirm the shape at working length and passive fit. a) If the fit is not passive, use the size verifier as a finishing file to gently enlarge the canal terminus or select a smaller size verifier. b) Irrigate with an antibacterial root canal cleanser according to product directions. c) Dry the canal thoroughly using absorbent points. d) Use a paper point of the same tip and taper as the last file taken to working length before heating the obturator. Brush a very light coating of (AH Plus®) sealer throughout the coronal-apical canal system. To help ensure the obturator reaches working length, use an additional dry absorbent point to remove any excess sealer that may have accumulated on the canal walls or pooled in the apex. Place the gutta•coreTM obturator in the gutta•coreTM oven (stopper must be under the holder) and set the working length. a) Heat gutta•coreTM on the lowest heat setting. For all other obturators, select the appropriate heating level (20-90). b) When the obturator is ready (audible beep, flashing indicator light), remove it from the oven and place the obturator smoothly, with one slow continuous motion, into the canal to the working length. Remove the handle from the gutta•coreTM obturator at the orifice by bending to either side of the canal wall. Alternatively, use a round bur. CLINICAL SEQUENCE

CLINICAL EDUCATION Clinical Case – Dr Gutmann- Dentistry Today Dr. Jim Gutmann Dr. Larry Farsakian CLINICAL EDUCATION CASE STUDY Dr. Jim Gutmann Clinical Case – Dr Gutmann- Dentistry Today The Future of Root Canal Obturation Written by James L. Gutmann, DDS, PhD Monday, 07 November 2011 Mandibular left second molar with root lengths of 24.5 mm. Canals were prepared to a size F1 (ProTaper) and obturated with GuttaCore carriers and AH-Plus root canal sealer. Access to the placement of the carriers on the mesial was enhanced by removing the handle and using a locking forceps to enable the proper angle of delivery. The distal canal was obturated in the normal fashion with the handle in place.
